RE: BEING TEXT OF A PRESS CONFERENCE ORGANIZED BY THE COALITION OF DELTA APC SUPPORT GROUPS ON THE OUTCOME OF THE JUST-CONCLUDED 2019 GENERAL ELECTIONS
After a careful analysis of the subject text, which has been going around different media platforms, purportedly written by a so-called Coalition of Delta APC Support Groups, it is evident that the said text of a supposed press conference, actually sounds like it was authored by the APC faction group led by Emerhor and others.
In Nigeria’s democracy, it is mandatory for everyone vying for any political position to seek for it and be elected through a political party. The aspect of having individual candidacy, like we have in the US, is not there yet in Nigeria’s democratic lexicon, though it is still in the works. But once a party has elected anyone to carry the party’s flag to contest for an elective position like the State Gubernatorial elections, the logical and ideal thing that is expected is for every member of that party to support whomever has been picked, regardless of how that person was picked by the party during its Primaries. Everyone cannot be chosen/elected to represent/carry the party’s flag in an election. But once the party has made a choice, it is expected that those who lost should support those who won. And not to run off with an ambition to divide the house. It is like saying: “if I cannot be chosen to carry the party’s flag, then whomever that is chosen will not get our support.” It is easy to destroy, but very difficult to build.
So, when the said group said in their text that they are not surprised at the outcome of the last Gubernatorial election in Delta State, it is like saying “this is exactly what they wanted to happen, and they got their wish, which evidently, is exactly what they ‘worked’ at the background to make happen. When the said group in their text, expressed that Ogboru (supposedly) lost in the Delta State Gubernatorial election: “despite the enormous support and opportunities provided by the National Leadership of the Party.” They are again telling everyone that their own faction of the APC in Delta State (at the State level) did not support or render the required backing to Ogboru in the election.
However, the most important question to ask is, did Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa actually win the said Gubernatorial election in Delta State? Obviously not - in my own opinion and from the overwhelming evidence that was observed during the said election. This is the position we expect, any APC -card-carrying member in Delta State, should have. And not what the so-called Coalition of Delta APC Support Groups are trying to insinuate, and have concluded in their text. Was the said Delta State Gubernatorial election free and fair? If it was truly free and fair, we all know that Okowa could not have won that election. How can the so-called Coalition of Delta APC Support Groups conclude that Great Ovedje Ogboru lost in the election and Okowa won, when careful research and study of the said Gubernatorial election results that was announced by INEC when compared with the figures in INEC’s Data base and the demographic/population ‘realities’ on ground in the different Local Government Areas of Delta State; does not tally and make sense at all.  For instance, INEC as at today, has 557, 384 in Total, of people Accredited as voters in Delta State. But the Gubernatorial election votes announced for Delta State exceeded 1.1million. That means, over 500 people who were ‘Not Accredited’, supposedly voted in the said Gubernatorial election in Delta State. Also, from the results announced, it was noted that in rural communities of Burutu and Bomadi LGAs, election figures announced in these areas were far more than the ones announced in densely populated areas like Warri South (Warri Urban), Uvwie, Udu, Ughelli South, Ughelli North,Okpe and Sapele LGAs. We all would agree that this is not normal.
While we wait for the Election Tribunals to address this anomaly, as noticed in the last Delta State election, the onus lies on us as patriotic Deltans not to accept or accommodate things that are wrong. From the said Delta State Gubernatorial election, it is already being alleged that the said results were simply written and announced, with the sheer collaboration between the Delta State PDP, some INEC Officials and the said APC faction in Delta State led by Emerhor and his group. For instance, how come Emerhor, who has never won an election in his home base, suddenly won in his home base in the last election? Why is it now that we are witnessing such a dramatic twist?
Without mincing words, it is being alleged that Emerhor is the mole in Delta State APC, who is being sponsored to ‘destabilize’ the Delta State APC, to pave way for Okowa to have the day. In other words, from the tune of the said text by the so-called Coalition of Delta APC Support Groups, it is evident that: what Emerhor and those with him are allegedly paid for to actualize in Delta State APC, he has accomplished it. But the truth is, the said Emerhor Group/faction has actually lost out in the scheme of things. They have lost their relevance and impact in the Delta State APC politicking. And it is only when Ogboru reclaims his stolen mandate as Governor of Delta State, that is when they might become relevant again.
If they claim that Ogboru did not reach out to other stakeholders of the party to unite those supposedly aggrieved with how he emerged as the party’s Gubernatorial candidate for Delta State, and that is why he failed and lost in the said election, then what about the fact that ‘they’ (Emerhor and his group) did not work for Buhari’s re-election bid in Delta State to see that he won? If they were so passionate and concerned about the party’s success in the last general elections, how come did they not help to deliver Delta State in the last Presidential election? This is why we find it laughable at the display of sycophancy and pretence exhibited by the so-called Coalition of Delta APC Support Groups when they noted in their text that they “whole-heartedly Congratulate President Muhammadu Buhari, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, his vice, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, the All Progressives Congress, APC Family across Nigeria, and, indeed, Nigerians on the well-deserved victory at the Presidential elections.” The question they should answer, however, is what ‘specific role and actions did they make/take to see that Delta State was delivered in support of President Buhari in the Presidential election?
While we would not want to delve into all the other trivial and unnecessary issues that were raised by the so-called Coalition of Delta APC Support Groups in the supposed text of a Press conference, the bottom line is that the likes of Emerhor and his group and nothing but ‘spoilers’ whose trade and stock is to compromise their supposed integrity and loyalty for a pot of rice over ephemeral things, while seeking for every, and any available opportunity they can to grab the political power that was never given to them. The question is, when will they grow up?
