ON ATIKU’S PDP MEETING IN DUBAI AS A SAD REMINDER OF HIS EXTRAVAGANT LIFESTYLE AND OBI’S SUSPICIOUS NEW-FOUND LOVE WITH IBORI
When it was recently reported that the Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, held a supposed strategy/brainstorming meeting with alleged over 400 members of his team in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), we could not help but wonder and ask; are there no good hotels in Nigeria for them to hold the said meeting? What happened to the Obudu Ranch Resort, as well as all the five Star Hotels in Lagos, Abuja, Port-Harcourt and Kano? There are also various ‘exotic venues’ in Nigeria that he could have used and have members of his team spend money to boost the local economy, but he decided to expend millions in ferrying Peter Obi, Secondus and other members in his circus to Dubai for the so-called strategy/brainstorming meeting. Are these hotels/exotic venues in Nigeria not good enough for the said PDP members to hold their meeting, that they had to take it all the way to Dubai? How many citizens of Dubai as Politicians, have flown to Nigeria to hold their political meetings?
The same Dubai, that was not known in the last 20 years, has now become the only choice of abode for Nigerian Politicians to hold their meetings. Who pays for all the logistics, including flight tickets, hotel accommodation, feeding, transportation for the said alleged over 400 members of the PDP for the said meeting in Dubai? Can we imagine the enormous cost this would amount and the economic drain this portends to us as a nation? We can imagine the hundreds of Nigerians, whose lives would be positively transformed and touched if such funds were channeled to address some basic needs of Nigerians. That is what these Politicians just go to Dubai to sit down and waste, in the name of having a so-called meeting.
Aside the fact that the said Dubai meeting had in attendance, Atiku’s running mate, Peter Obi; the Senate President, Bukola Saraki; ex-Ogun Governor, Gbenga Daniel; ex-aide to former President, Reno Omokri, Bayelsa East Senator, Ben Bruce among several others, the one that shocked us most is the presence of our dear Peter Obi. Agreed Obi is the running mate of Atiku, but this is the same Obi, whose videos of how Nigerian Governments can be prudent, avoid wastes and save enough public funds to transform their States and the Country, have been going around across social media platforms. It is this same Obi, who has been condemning wastage in public offices in several past interviews and programms, that is now wasting resources with Atiku.
Has Obi been pretending to be a prudent politician or what? What standard is Atiku and Peter Obi setting with this latest stunt of a meeting in Dubai? This is nothing but a sad reminder of Atiku’s extravagant lifestyle, elitist mindset to Governance, which his years out of Government, Nigerians have not forgotten. The development was an indication to Atiku’s dangerous tendency to hand Nigeria over to foreign interests, with Dubai being his latest preference. Is this how the duo of Atiku/Obi-led PDP intends to run a so-called ‘domestic-oriented economy’ for the Nigerian masses with this kind of lavish lifestyle of taking his strategy team with over alleged 400 members to Dubai?
In another development concerning the former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, many like us, were surprised to note that he was in the recent burial ceremony of the elder brother of former Delta State Governor, James Ibori, which took place on Friday 2nd of November, 2018. This is the first time of seeing Peter Obi with James Ibori in public view, especially after the former’s UK prison experience for money laundry and gross corruption against Delta State and its people. We could not help but ask if this is a new relationship, or was there something between these two before now that the Nigerian public are not aware of? When did this new found-love between the duo blossom? When have they become close friends? These questions become necessary when we consider the fact that the likes of Peter Obi are worlds-apart with the likes of James Ibori.
Other than the fact that they are former Governors, Obi and Ibori simply do not have anything in common. Just the same way we are still wondering what Obi, whose pedigree and legacy while in Government was exceptionally commendable and impactful, is today doing with Atiku, who is the exact opposite of him? What exactly is Peter Obi doing in the circle of these allegedly-corrupt and stained politicians? Is like a sheep in the midst of wolves. Is Obi this desperate to grab political power, that he is willing to destroy his good name and amiable reputation, which he has built with hard years of work? Why is Obi ignoring the consequences of actions/moves, which are capable of tarnishing his good name? These are questions only Obi can answer for himself.
