A-stern-warning-and-advice-to-nigerian-politicians-to-desist-from-continuing-on-their-path-of-bad-governance-for-it-will-lead-to-the-countrys-doom

Comrade Adams Oshiomhole (APC National Chairman)

Uche Secondus (PDP National Chairman)

We have reiterated severally before that, if our Nigerian politicians at all levels should continue with their bad-governance, misappropriation and mismanagement of our collective national wealth meant to improve the standard of living of all and sundry in the country, like they have been doing since 1999; they should be warned that dooms day is coming and they are not an exception to its impact. Hence, we have advised that they should learn to use the collective wealth of the polity to secure the future of this nation. These political leaders at all levels and regions of the country, might think that this will never happen to them, but they should not be deluded or deceived to think that Nigerians in their various States of the region, are not fed-up with their lies, failed promises, gross corruption and insensitivity to the plight and sufferings of the masses. When a man or a people are pushed to wall, especially after ‘enduring’ all the maltreatment, it is a matter of time for them to ‘react’ aggressively against those shortchanging their future in the corridors of political power.
The simple and only solution to prevent the future doom from happening, is to ensure ‘good governance’ and delivering their campaign promises by putting in place, the required infrastructures where they are needed most by the people, and not based on political schemes, which would better the lot of Nigerians. But most importantly, it is when we start seeing these Nigerian politicians using the nation’s health infrastructure or educational sector for instance, that Nigerians will know that indeed the desired change we all seek is here. But as long as they keep patronizing the good basic infrastructure outside the shores of this country, and leaving the Nigerian masses to make do with the deplorable infrastructure we have in the country, then we still have a long way to go.
This was the same line of thoughts that was portrayed recently by Femi Kuti, in a well-circulated short video, while describing the pathetic state of Nigeria. In his word: “The country has collapsed. The day Europe does not want our oil, what are we going to do? I am saying what my father said all his life. I am saying what I have been saying in over 30 years of my career as well. And I hope this time, we will all listen to ourselves. Again, we are all to be blamed, at one point or so. We are not fighting anybody. So, we all need to come and say, we are not fighting the Police, we want the Police…we want to love the Police. Look, our soldiers are dying in the North East. These are young boys that are risking their lives. They are badly armed… I have been there myself. Many of you may have probably not gone there. You will see a malnourished mother feeding a malnourished child. The last time as at then, I was told it will cost N2.5m to dig a borehole for 50,000 people. You want to tell me no Nigerian has N2.5m to do a borehole there for people to drink just water?
“And we know the amount of money being stolen from the resources of this country. We know, we read it. And how many children are we going to start losing before we say enough is enough? One life, one innocent life is too many. And it takes so long for the President of this country to defend this. The President of this country should be in the forefront of this advocacy. He should not have even traveled to where he went, because when you lose one citizen, you have lost a nation. That man could have been probably the guy who would cure cancer. Or who do the first African plane that will not crash. Who knows what his future held for him. All the Nigerian Politicians should be in the forefront. What is happening in Zamfara, where are they? What is taking them so long to quench Boko Haram?
“For me, I do not see this as an issue. I use my profession, if you call me to perform, and I gave you a bad concert, that is the end of my career. And these people stay in the office, taking these huge salaries… I mean, we all watch them on TV. They are clowns. Look how long it is taking them to look into this important issue. Look how long it is taking them, because their children are not in this country. They too do not need the healthcare of this country. If they were all forced, that all their children should go to Government Schools. I mean the Government Schools that the poor people go to. You will see that Federal Government Schools will be the best Schools in the country. If it was in the Constitution, that every Politician, everybody serving public offices, must go to that General Hospital, or any General Hospital for treatment. You will see how fine these hospitals will be.
“That is what we must demand as a people. That when you are serving the people of this country; it must be in the Constitution that you and your family must use all the facilities in this country. Your Transport Minister should use Okada, with all the risks in using Okada – Or give us a good Transport Sector. When you see the way, our Teachers are being treated, and you see how the Medical Sector of the country is being treated, you will understand. The President does not trust his life in the hands of any hospital in this country. That Speaks volumes… The President or Prime Minister of any country in Europe and America, cannot be seen… Donald Trump cannot be seen going to England for his treatment. If he tries it, that is the end of his Presidency. The Queen of England cannot go to America for healthcare. My friend, President Macron cannot go to London for treatment. It is unheard of! This should be this Government’s First Agenda – to even do one General Hospital to International best Standard.
“It should be a law by now, that every Government official, cannot go for treatment, or their families, out of this country, no matter what is wrong with you, because we are forced to use these Hospitals. If we do not have good education for our children, that is the downfall of this country. so, there must be affordable education. If the Police are not treated properly, of course they will behave like tyrants on the Streets. So, we need people that truly love this country. We need a Government that is ready to die for its people… We are not against the Police. We are saying the complete orientation of the Police must change into positiveness. The Police works for us, its citizens. The Police cannot go and kill its citizens. We pay our taxes. So, the Police must defend us. We are not saying scrap the Police force, of course there will be crime. And if the Police is properly equipped, the Police can protect us against crime… See the Police we are talking about, the Police are badly paid. See some of them on the Streets with slippers. How can somebody you are paying badly, how can he take care of you? So, if we do not quickly change everything in this country to move righteously and positively forward for the development future of our children, all of us are going to be in trouble. And we know it, everybody knows it,” Femi emphasized.
Former American President, Abraham Lincoln, in one of his famous quotes, once said: “You can fool all the people some of the time, and some of the people all the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time.” Bringing this back home, our Nigerian politicians should not think that majority of the Nigerian citizenry are not patiently observing and taking stock of all their misdeeds while in Government. The Nigerian politicians, specifically the State governors, should repent from their self-centered and evil ways and start doing the right things in the sight of God. They should stop misappropriating and channeling public money to their private pockets. Rather, they should daily strive to eradicate the enormous poverty in the land. Truth is, if Nigerian political leaders from1999 were doing what was expected of them in the area of governance, the country would be like Qatar of the Africa. If the enormous wealth and resources evident in the country all these years, were genuinely used for the purpose they were meant for, we are certain the nation won’t be where it is today.
The much talk of zoning of political positions and all that is basically due to bad governance, and the unpatriotic stand of the politicians. Who cares in the UK or US where their leaders come from? One does not need to be connected to the US White house or the Buckingham Palace, and No.10 Downing Street, London in the UK, before one gets what is due to him/her. One does not need to know any leader in these developed countries before you climb the political ladder. Their citizens have every right to get what is entitled to them. But here in Nigeria, it is a complete story. We really have a long way to go. If Ibori is in power, then one must be connected to the Urhobos in Oghara. And if Uduaghan is in power, then one must be connected to Itsekiris. For Okowa, one must be connected to his Anioma people from his community to get attention. It is really pathetic.
